Compassionate Science

In a world where technology is taking over rather rapidly, it is of great importance that some of this technology is for the benefit of others too. In order to do this, one must under take a career in the science and engineering fields. It is very difficult, however, to create something for the benefit of others without being criticized or judged for it hurting others as well. Every new piece of technology causes an ethical dilemma between many people. If there were one thing I could do without causing any controversy, it would be finding a way of creating stem cells. Nowadays, the only way to obtain these is through the fetus of an unborn child. Many people detest this idea because the only way to get these is through fetuses of babies that have been aborted. It would be wonderful to find a way of, maybe not creating, but rather discovering where else these cells could from. If we had access to these and could implant them in other people, then those who have been paralyzed could walk again, talk again, and eat again. They will no longer depend on wheel chairs to get around or tubes to feed them. I would do anything I can to figure this out

  1. Excellent thoughts! Yes, stem cell research is a great field, but I don’t think you will get away from having to make some tough decisions.

    Well said!
