My Review on the Elephant Man

When the movie just began, I had no idea what was going on, making it extremely difficult for me to get into the movie. However, as the movie went on, i started understanding it more and more. When the elephant man, or John Merrick, made his first appearance, I did not get a feeling of disturbance like most of the characters in the movie. At first I thought it was because I was not actually seeing him in person, but then I realized that most people in our class did get scared. I was very shocked, but instead of being overwhelmed with a feeling of disgust, I was filled with pity in a way. Knowing that this movie was based on a true story only made this feeling of sorrow for John even stronger. I tried to put myself in his position, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not imagine how difficult it must have been. It was here when I really started getting into the movie and enjoying it much more. So far, this has been my favorite movie that we have watched in class.

  1. I think the fact that you could feel such sympathy for John Merick right from the start says a lot about who you are as a person. You must have a lot of empathy and understanding in your heart. Good job!
